Goals:
This program is to increase the awareness and understanding of the impact of lifestyle disease on people and families in the NPA. It aims to inform the community of what can be done to avoid chronic illness and where to get assistance to change lifestyle habits. Overall the programs goal is to achieve a reduction in the level of chronic illness in the NPA community.
Strategies:
Deliver three programs; Meal Planning, Backyard Gardens and Personal Action Officer to individual house holders that aim to assist in the development of a healthy lifestyle
Increase community awareness in the health of NPA residents and how individuals can address their personal health needs in small but meaningful ways.
Deliver education to children in schools so they can learn how to care for their physical well being.
Meal Planning:
Develop manuals to include nutrition information and healthier cooking methods and recipes for the Childcare Centres and Out of School Hours Centres (OSHC) in Injinoo, Umagico, Bamaga and New Mapoon.
Back Yard Gardening:
Support house holders in preparing gardens and supply seedlings and garden tools to each house holder that has signed on with our program.
Personal Action:
Not being very active in our daily lives and having a poor diet can lead to weight gain and obesity. This is a major cause of many health problems but by increasing the amount of activity in our day we can better manage weight gain, live longer and have better health.
We will assist individuals:
Map out daily and weekly activities
Motivate changes towards being more active
