The Smoking Cessation Project Team works with pregnant women and their families in addressing the high rate of indigenous women who smoke during their pregnancy. We provide informal support through one-on-one consultation, Quit Café and providing educational sessions “Give Up Por Bubba” in conjunction with the Maternal Health ‘Pamele Owmun’ sessions. Our sessions raise the awareness of the associated risks of smoking to unborn baby and mum and also provides education and ways to cut down on smoking or eventually quit. We assist pregnant women in developing a quit plan to help them identify their smoking triggers and to develop strategies to overcome the urge to smoke.

We work closely with the Maternal & Child Health Team.

Together we recently launched the Strong Women, Strong Mum, Strong Culture program. Letting pregnant mums know that services are available to provide care during their pregnancy.
